Lions belong to the order of predators, family of cats and to the genus of big cats.
Next to the tigers, they are the largest predatory cats on earth:
The fur of lions is yellowish brown to reddish or dark brown in colour, slightly lighter on the belly.
The unmistakable characteristic of the male is the enormous mane, which is darker in colour than the rest of the fur.
Today it is only found in parts of Africa south of the Sahara and in the Indian state of Gujarat.
Lions live mainly in the savannah, but they can also be found in dry forests and semi-deserts.
